Packaging Storage & Care FAQ: Moisture, Stacking and Handling

“How do I protect goods during sea freight?” Moisture-proof bags, desiccants, and pallet stretch wrap are standard essentials. Since humidity fluctuates significantly inside containers, prompt unpacking, ventilation, and inspection upon arrival are crucial for early detection and resolution of issues.

Packaging boxes require proper “care” during storage. Keep them dry, avoid crushing, and prevent moisture exposure; follow these three rules, and your stock will remain in good condition indefinitely.

Many clients notice that while some boxes remain intact after six months, others soften and warp within just a few months. It’s not a matter of luck—it’s about storage methods. This article addresses common questions about box storage so you can manage your inventory with certainty rather than guesswork.

“Why do boxes warp due to moisture?” Paper is hygroscopic; when air humidity rises, the cardboard absorbs moisture, reducing its structural strength and causing the box to soften and deform. The rainy season in southern regions and the duration of sea transport are high-risk periods requiring special attention.

“How high can they be stacked?” Determine the stacking height based on compression strength data: place heavier items at the bottom and lighter ones on top. Reduce stacking height for long-term storage; prolonged pressure can cause the bottom boxes to collapse, as even high-quality boxes cannot withstand constant crushing weight.

“Is there a difference between storing finished boxes and semi-finished ones?” Yes. Semi-finished boxes are not yet formed; storing them flat saves space and improves durability. Finished boxes are already shaped and vulnerable to crushing or squeezing; they should be stored upright or stacked lightly, ideally with interleaving sheets between layers. The box’s structural integrity is its value—if crushed, it becomes unusable and creates a problem with the client.

“What is the safest storage method?” Dryness and ventilation are fundamental. Store boxes off the ground, away from walls, and on pallets to prevent direct contact with ground moisture. Control warehouse temperature and humidity if possible—hygrometers are far more reliable than human perception.

“Can warped boxes still be used?” Boxes with slight moisture absorption may recover in a dry environment, but severe warping affects opening/closing mechanisms and appearance. You bear the cost of losses caused by improper storage, whereas issues stemming from manufacturing defects should be resolved with the supplier according to contract standards.
