Printed Sample
The color check:
- Shows printed colors and print quality
- Confirms colors match your design
- Checks print clarity and finish
- Good for color approval
When to use: After design, before printing. Good for confirming colors and print quality.
Blank Sample
The fold check:
- Shows fold, structure and size
- Confirms carton folds correctly
- Checks tuck end closure
- Good for structure approval
When to use: Before bulk order. The most important step — this confirms the carton folds and closes properly.
Production Sample
The quality check:
- First cartons from production line
- Confirms bulk quality
- Checks consistency
- Approves full run
When to use: At the start of production. Good for confirming bulk quality matches the sample.
What to Check on a Sample
- Print color — Do colors match your design?
- Fold quality — Does the carton fold cleanly?
- Tuck end — Does the tuck end close properly?
- Paper quality — Is the paper the right thickness?
- Size fit — Does your product fit inside?
- Edge quality — Are edges clean and cut properly?

Common Folding Carton Sample Mistakes
- Skipping samples — Bulk order arrives and it’s wrong
- Only printed sample, no blank — Colors look right but carton doesn’t fold
- Not checking tuck end — Carton won’t close properly
- No sample approval — Production starts without sign-off
- Same sample for all sizes — Each size needs its own sample
