Printed Sample
The color check:
- Shows printed colors and print quality
- Confirms colors match your design
- Checks logo and finish quality
- Good for color approval
When to use: After design, before printing. Good for confirming colors and print quality.
Blank Sample
The lid check:
- Shows lid fit and structure
- Confirms lid sits securely on the base
- Checks interior lining and insert
- Good for structure approval
When to use: Before bulk order. The most important step — this confirms the lid fits and your product is protected.
Production Sample
The quality check:
- First boxes from production line
- Confirms bulk quality
- Checks consistency
- Approves full run
When to use: At the start of production. Good for confirming bulk quality matches the sample.
What to Check on a Sample
- Lid fit — Does the lid sit securely on the base?
- Interior lining — Is the lining smooth and well-finished?
- Print color — Do colors match your design?
- Box size — Does your product fit inside?
- Edge quality — Are edges clean and crisp?
- Corner quality — Are corners sharp and well-formed?

Common Rigid Gift Box Sample Mistakes
- Skipping samples — Bulk order arrives and it’s wrong
- Only printed sample, no blank — Colors look right but lid doesn’t fit
- Not checking lining — Lining feels cheap or rough
- No sample approval — Production starts without sign-off
- Same sample for all sizes — Each size needs its own sample
