Description
What Goes Into the Price of a Custom Rigid Box?
Custom rigid box pricing depends on several factors. Understanding them helps you budget accurately and avoid surprises.
Here’s the full breakdown.
1. Box Size & Board Thickness
The biggest cost driver is material. Rigid boxes are built on greyboard, typically 1.5–2mm thick.

Larger boxes use more board, so they cost more. A 10×10×5cm box is cheaper than a 20×20×10cm box.
2. Outer Material & Printing
Art Paper (128–157gsm)
The standard choice. Full-color offset printing, reliable, cost-effective.
Specialty Paper
Textured, linen, or matte art paper. Adds premium feel but costs more.
similicuir
Synthetic leather covering. Highest-end option, most expensive.

4. Foil Stamping & Embossing
Gold / Silver Foil
Metallic foil stamped on the lid. Instant luxury upgrade.
Blind Embossing
Raised texture without ink. Subtle, elegant.

5. Inserts
The insert is often the second-largest cost after the box itself:

|

6. Quantity (MOQ)
Unit price drops significantly as quantity increases:
|

|
Highest (setup cost spread thin)
|
|

|
|
Plus de 5 000 pièces
|

|
|

The setup cost (die-making, plate-making) is the same regardless of quantity. Ordering more units spreads that fixed cost over more boxes.

How to Save Money on Rigid Boxes
- Order 1,000+ pcs — The setup cost is spread over more units
- Choose standard board sizes — Custom dies add cost
- Limit foil/emboss to one area — Smaller foil area = less cost
- Use EVA foam instead of velvet — 50% cheaper, still looks great
- Combine orders — If you have multiple SKUs, combine them in one production run
