How Is a Magnetic Folding Box Made?
A magnetic folding box looks like a premium rigid box but arrives completely flat. It’s built on the same greyboard core as a standard rigid box, but with precision hinge folds that let it collapse.
Inside the lid flaps are hidden magnets. When you fold the box up and close the lid, the magnets snap it shut with a satisfying click.
The components:
- Greyboard core (1.5–2mm)
- Outer printed wrapping paper
- Hidden magnets embedded in the lid flaps
- Precision hinge folds at the corners
How Much Do You Actually Save on Freight?
This is the key question. Pre-assembled rigid boxes ship at full volume. Folding boxes ship flat — about 1/5 to 1/7 of the assembled volume.

What to Watch Out For
- Assembly time — Someone has to fold the boxes. For 10,000 orders, that’s time.
- Magnet strength — Cheap magnets lose hold. Make sure yours are strong enough.
- Hinge quality — Bad hinges crack after a few folds. Check samples.
- Box thickness — Folding boxes use slightly thinner board than rigid boxes.
- Weight limit — Very heavy products may need double-wall support.
Opções de personalização
Everything you can do on a standard rigid box, you can do on a folding box:
- Full-color printing
- Foil stamping and embossing
- Laminação com toque suave
- Custom inserts (foam, velvet, cardboard)
- Window cutouts
- Any size or shape (within reason)

Erros comuns a evitar
- Not testing the fold — Always fold and unfold a sample 10 times to check hinge durability
- Wrong magnet size — Too weak = lid pops open; too strong = hard to open
- Forgetting insert thickness — The insert adds height; measure before sizing the box
- Ordering too few — The setup cost is the same at 300 or 3,000
- Skipping freight calculation — Get a shipping quote before committing
